Ms Jan Norris joined JG Afrika as a geotechnical engineer in 1996. She was promoted to associate in 2000 and executive associate in 2002, and appointed as a director of the firm in 2004. At that time she took over as managing director of the associate company, Terratest, a geotechnical, environmental and earth science consultancy.
Before this, Jan worked at Thames Water (UK) on the geotechnical investigation for the London Water Ring Main – a large, 3,5 m diameter, 80 km tunnel, 50 m underground. Thames Water sponsored her part-time MSc studies in geotechnical engineering at Surrey University, from which she graduated in 1994.
In 2015 Jan was appointed as the chief engineer for the geotechnical investigation for the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase II. The project includes the Polihali Dam, a 165 m high concrete-faced rockfill dam and a 38 km transfer tunnel from Polihali to Katse.
Jan is the branch manager of the Pietermaritzburg office and represents the KwaZulu-Natal region on the executive board.
