VW BODY SHOP EXTENSION

Increased production at the Volkswagen Group SA plant in Uitenhage required extensions to the existing plant and JG Afrika was appointed as the principal agent.

The team pulled out all the stops to meet an extremely tight deadline, and within two months, they had finalised the scope of works, completed the designs, received “signed off” by the client, and put the project out to tender.

The first phase of construction required the demolition of “Building 10”, which housed offices, workshops, stores, a fast food outlet and large ablution areas. To accommodate these departments and upgrade services, 15 separate facilities around the plant had to be upgraded.

Phase 2 expanded the Body Shop, including the pouring and curing of 1 900 mᵌ concrete floor in 10 days.

Phase 3, the installation of services and equipment, required 16 contractors working within the roof space or off the roof structure to be project managed.
