We were appointed civil and structural engineer for a “green” commercial building in the Sisonke District Office.
A prominent feature of the office block is its roof – a flat reinforced concrete slab with a protective layer of about 200 mm of vegetated soil planted with indigenous flora.
The office building is a single storey concrete frame structure with an insulated brick cavity wall on the south and large double-glazed windows facing north. Workshop buildings were constructed from load-bearing brickwork with steel roof sheeting on timber trusses.
