JG Afrika assists with renovations to Victoria 50

As the civil and structural engineers on Victoria 50, Clifton Beach, we undertook substantial renovations and extensions to the existing eight- storey building to convert it into a spacious, elegant facility that capitalised on its unique location.

Our team had to undertake many critical design decisions to blast approximately 300 m³ of solid granite without disturbing the existing building; replace several concrete columns and beams with structural steel; and underpin columns supporting four or more floors.

We also had to provide watertight structures for new water features; install storm-resistant sea walls; fit new structural glass elements; and attach large spanning cantilever pergolas.
