Shalen Jangali is a professionally registered civil engineer with over 23 years of experience, 17 of which have been at JG Afrika. As Technical Director and Head of the Roads Discipline in the Pietermaritzburg office, he leads a team that delivers innovative and reliable road infrastructure solutions across South Africa and beyond.

 

Shalen’s expertise spans the full lifecycle of road projects – from conceptual and detailed design through to construction supervision and contract administration. His experience includes urban and rural road upgrades, periodic maintenance, geometric and pavement design, drainage, safety improvements, feasibility studies, and cost estimating. He is well-versed in major conditions of contract lending him support in his role as Contracts Engineer for many clients.

 

Shalen has managed projects for national clients such as SANRAL, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, and international agencies. His international portfolio includes the design and project leadership of over 80 km of national highways in Liberia and 225 km of feeder roads in Ghana both under Output and Performance-based Road Contracts (OPRC). He has also contributed to infrastructure development in Lesotho, Mozambique, Rwanda, DRC and Eswatini and Australia

 

Promoted to Technical Director in 2014, Shalen is known for his practical leadership, attention to detail, and deep understanding of road infrastructure systems. He is a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) and is passionate about engineering excellence, cost-effective solutions, and capacity building within the industry and mentorship

 

Shalen, is and avid chef and when he is not cooking up a storm for his party of five, is hard at work at his local Karate DOJO, trying to master the art of Shotokan Karate or watching Formula 1 Racing and Premier League Football.
