WASTE LICENSE APPLICATION

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) appointed JG Afrika to undertake the waste license application process for the proposed rehabilitation of the diesel contaminated land at the Sasolburg diesel depot located some 6.4 km south east of the Sasolburg CBD, Free State.

Prior to JG Afrika’s appointment, TFR had contracted GEO Pollution Technologies to undertake a Phase 1 contamination assessment for the Sasolburg yard in June 2011.

An initial site visit undertaken by JG Afrika in May 2012 identified issues that prompted the DEA to request that a Phase 2 contamination assessment be undertaken. JG Afrika appointed GEO Pollution Technologies to undertake the assessment and after their final report was received in January 2013, JG Afrika submitted a draft Basic Assessment Report and Environmental Management Plan to TFR in May. Following a 40 day Public Review Period a final report was submitted to DEA in July.

The DEA issued a waste license in March 2014.
