JG Afrika was appointed to undertake the detailed design and provide technical support to the contract administration team for the construction of 14 km of new bituminous surfaced haul road from QMM’s Rio Tinto Mine’s mineral separation plant to a new port at Fort Dauphin.
The work also included the design of a bridge over the Anandrano River. It consisted of a 24 m simply-supported precast concrete beam type deck on abutments with piled foundations, as well as several large cast in-situ concrete box culverts.
We also assessed the subgrade conditions along the road centre-line over deep dune sand deposits, alluvial and estuarine swamps and undertook slope stability assessments of high dunes.
This is in addition to locating and analysing road pavement layer works construction materials and founding conditions for bridge and culvert structures.
