JG Afrika was part of the large team that delivered New Horizons’ large-scale waste-to-energy plant in Athlone, Cape Town. Following the assessment of “value engineering” options for the project, we undertook associated site-development planning, including traffic and transportation, as well as the civil and structural contract and design elements.

This is in addition to the integration of design with environmental and building plans, as well as storm water and effluent-management planning. We were also the lead consultant in the mechanical, electrical, IT, ventilation and fire teams, as well as for architectural and building plan approvals.

The work scope included the construction of the 4 000 m2 specialised structure that houses a tipping hall and the waste-processing equipment. Other structures included concrete anaerobic digester tanks and suspension buffer tank, in addition to other smaller concrete tanks and facilities.

JG Afrika also developed a global electronic platform to facilitate the accurate management of extensive documentation and record-keeping.
