NACALA DAM RAISING AND REHABILITATION EIA

JG Afrika undertook the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the rehabilitation and raising of the 17 m high by 300 m long Nacala Dam.

The 17 m high by 300 m long earth embankment dam had been overtopped on two occasions and was through through the embankment.

The EIA was submitted to the Mozambican authorities for approval, and included screening and scoping; management of specialist studies, such as health impact assessments.

It also encompassed resettlement, aquatic and biodiversity, as well as heritage-impact assessments; management of the public participation process and liaison with client and government bodies.

Our scope included the compilation of an environmental-management plan for construction.
