LESOTHO LOWLANDS BULK WATER SUPPLY HYDRAULIC MODELLING

JG Afrika was involved in the Lesotho Lowlands Bulk Water Supply Feasibility Study hydraulic modelling. This was undertaken in partnership with Royal HaskoningDHV and GWC Consulting Engineers.

The engineering team identified the need for run-of-river abstraction to source raw water from the Hlotse River, and preliminary investigations were then undertaken to determine a suitable abstraction point.

A physical model was built to assess localised sediment and scour impacts of the abstraction pump station with various orientations within the river bank. This was undertaken by the University of Stellenbosch, which was also appointed by the engineering team to assess the sediment and scour impacts of the pump station at 0, 20, 40 and 60 degree orientations.
