JG Afrika revised the detailed design that was initially undertaken by Umgeni Water for a pipeline that would increase capacity between DV Harris water-treatment works.
We also undertook the preliminary and detailed design, site supervision and management of three separate contracts. They included pipe supply, specialist pipe-jacking and pipeline construction.
As-built record drawings, as well as an Operations and Maintenance manual were also generated.
The project entailed installing 5,56 km of 900 mm diameter and 1 200 mm diameter continuously-welded steel pipeline through a golfing estate, environmentally sensitive mist-belt, grasslands and commercial timber plantations. Moreover, the project included two 1 800 mm pipe-jacks. One of these entailed a 20 m crossing under the R103 and the other 76 m in distance and beneath six lanes of the N3.
